2017 Signature Chefs Auction
Every fall, the March of Dimes puts on its Signature Chefs Auction event—an evening showcasing the culinary talent, tasty food, and fine wines in Southwest Florida. The money raised from the event supports the research, advocacy, community outreach, and programs the March of Dimes does in its mission "to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality."
Be Brilliant Marketing has proudly supported the Signature Chefs Auction since 2014. This year, Bryon and Kellie were especially honored to serve as the co-chairs for the 2017 event. Crystal put her design skills to work putting together the event program and presentations.
Bryon and Kellie officially started on their co-chair adventure in February. One question that often came up was, "Why the March of Dimes?" While they're not parents themselves, they know that if every baby can have a healthy start, the positive benefits extend far beyond that family into the community and well into the future. They've seen friends and families face the fears and challenges of having a baby born too soon.
Kellie's twin nieces arrived at 24 weeks — nearly four months before their due date. Weighing just one pound each, the girls spent over two months in a neo-natal intensive care unit (NICU) where they benefitted from surfactant therapy that came out of March of Dimes research to help tiny, underdeveloped lungs get enough oxygen. Those babies are now healthy five-year-olds, full of energy, and just started kindergarten this year.
With the wonderful, generous support of the local community, the 2017 Signature Chefs Auction was a great success — check out the photo gallery below. More than $160,000 was raised to help the March of Dimes fund research into the causes and prevention for premature birth, provide comfort and information to parents with a baby in a NICU, and make progress with outreach ensuring women and children have access to healthcare.
National Reach & Local Touch
While March of Dimes is known for progress in national research and advocacy, it's easy to miss the local impact of the organization. But our Southwest Florida community saw it first hand when March of Dimes called on its national relationship with Pampers and coordinated with Golisano Children’s Hospital and Naples Community Hospital (NCH) to bring 40,000 diapers to help with disaster relief after hurricane Irma. This is a great example of how the organization and our local community work together.
