Blogging is a powerful tool for marketing communications. Done right, a blog can help you gain exposure, establish credibility, attract customers, improve search rankings, and more. Like anything worth doing, blogging works best when it’s done right – and that’s not always as easy as it looks.

But don’t let that stop you! In fact, there are great resources to help you find inspiration for your writing, easily share your blog, and quickly measure your success. Here are three of our favorite tools that every blogger needs!

1. Google Alerts This is one of our favorite tools for keeping up with timely topics as they show up in the news. Curating news is a great way to generate ideas to blog about or find content to share. Google Alerts users can sign up and receive automatic notifications with links to articles that are relevant to selected topics. You might also want to check out curated content websites, one of our favorites is Alltop.com. You can quickly search and gather articles and inspiration from authoritative sources and get daily updates tailored to your interests.

2. Social Media Publishing platform Check out Bufferapp, Hootsuite, or Social Sprout (or one of many others) and put one of these tools to use helping you manage and measure the effectiveness of your blog, as well as your social media activities on multiple platforms. These solutions make it less time consuming to schedule content at certain dates/times. Another bonus: These services provide analytical data that show demographic details, number of likes, brand perceptions, and more.

3. MailChimp (or Constant Contact or iContact) These Customer Relationship Management (CRM) systems allow you to easily build and maintain your contact lists. You can add contacts via Facebook, from phone/address book programs, manually one at a time, upload database/spreadsheets, etc. Built-in email templates make it simple to design great email campaigns, link to your blog and social media platforms. By organizing your contacts into categories, it’s easy to deliver email messages to specific audiences. These systems also offer best practice advice and real-time analytics to help you maximize campaign performance.
